This rural area north of alpharetta is filled to the rim with entertainment. Drop the ladies off at the North Georgia Premium Outlet for a full day of fun for the whole family. Just be aware, most of these events need to either schedule ahead of time or is not always available so its a good idea to call or check their website before you go.
River Bend Gun Club is an outdoor range designed for weekend gun enthusiats but not everyone wants to shell out $1000 for a yearly membership.
Luckily they offer a 100 Yard Match/Clinic every fourth saturday that is designed to help new sharpshooters learn the art and see the range. They charge $15 for the event but they try to give the money back with random awards in the end. Just bring a rifle and ammo, and the nicely ask the other participants for assistance.
Etowah Valley Game Preserve brings a unique and action packed shotgun hunting experience to the amateur hunters getting their toes into the water. I highly recommend the $375+tip Clays and Feathers Package to practice at the Etowah Valley Sporting Clay range before heading out to the pre-laid bird nesting area where your guide will flush out the birds with their trained guide dogs. You have the option of getting your hunted birds cleaned to bring home for dinner as well.
Racing enthusiasts can try out the high-speed karting experience at the Atlanta Motorsports Park
Their 60mph carts offer a more intense while safe experience than the indoor bumper cars most kids play. I recommend 3 sessions for $88 while the ladies may be content with trying just 1 session for $36.
If you are done early or sight seeing is more in your palate, I recommend visiting Yonah mountain and Helen City German town further north. Their are many other trails worth seeing such as the Anna Ruby Falls, Tallulah Falls, and Brasstown Bald(Highest point in GA)
Helen is a Germany inspired town filled with small shops and restarants fun for kids and the family. They have many drinking events for Oktoberfest that I would avoid due to difficulty with Parking and traffic.
Relaxing tubing through the city is also a popular activity for a Helen day trip.

In the other direction, Kennesaw is a well know city for having a interesting war history and a law where residents are REQUIRED to own a firearm. Naturally they have the largest gun store in the world, Adventure Outdoors. They run really good deals on guns and ammo sometimes I highly recommend checking out their online sales ads before going.
After getting your shiny new gun, head to The Governor's gun club for a premier indoor shooting experience with 100yard range and trap shooting range that are rare for the average 25yard ranges. I recommend the $45 Full metal jacket experience for 2(essentially 1 day membership) to access the regular range and their Restaurant/lounge as well as membership pricing on ammo, rentals, and high powered ranges. (Check fine print or call for detail.)
If you still have time Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park offers a great hike for a great view of the City of Atlanta and to learn some history about the civil war battle that happened here.
